Discovery Questions
Leigh is disappointed that his dad doesn’t contact or spend more time with him. Who, a parent, sibling, or friend, has disappointed you and how is it the same or different? Use the Venn diagram, or draw one on the back, and find as many ways they are alike and as many as they are different as you can.
Dear Mr. Henshaw is called an epistolary novel, meaning it is a series of letters. While you read all of Leigh’s letters, you didn’t read any of Mr. Henshaw’s. Name another book where it is told from a major character’s point of view, and re-write part of it as if it were a series of letters.
Leigh has a number of things he is unhappy about. By the end of the book he has learned to deal with, or he “fixed” almost all those problems. Using a “T” chart list at least 5 of his problems on the left, and the outcomes on the right.
Mr. Henshaw tells Leigh to write, write, write. Leigh ends up writing a story about a trip he took with his Dad. Write a story about a special time you spent with someone.
