After your child receives and reads this book, Discuss one or more of the following questions to help him/her make connections and build comprehension.

  • Little Nita wants to make the world's largest fruit salad. What is your favorite fruit? Which of the fruits in this book have you never eaten before? The next time you go to the grocery pick one of the fruits from the book or the glossary, and try it with your family!
  • Have you eaten vegetable soup? With the help of a parent make a list of at least five vegetables that must go in it. Then, make the soup with your parent!
  • Nita watched the musicians. Then she got the idea for how to make her salad. How did the musicians inspire her? Discuss it with a parent.
  • Pretend you are one of Nita's neighbors who helped with the fruit salad. Write Nita a thank you note for the afternoon. Tell her what you liked about the salad and the experience.
