After your child receives and reads this book, Discuss one or more of the following questions to help him/her make connections and build comprehension.

• Sparky is afraid of the dogcatcher, and the Bulldog Boys. What are you afraid of? Why? Talk about it with a parent.
• Sparky and Watson run away from the dogcatcher. What other character in another story runs away? Use a Venn diagram. How are they like Sparky? How are they different? Share your diagram with a parent.
• There are many ways to get a pet. You could buy it from a breeder. Or a pet store. You could get it from the pound or shelter. Why is purchasing a pet from one place better than another? Talk about it with a parent.
• Sparky is always hungry. When he is in London he smells different foods. Have a parent help you. Research some of the foods he could have gotten while he was there. Try making one of them!
