Discovery Questions

  • Mr. Acevedo said he would not have his class do practice assessments. Have you ever said you would never do something, and then you had to do it? How did it make you feel? Write about it. Share your story with an adult.
  • Mr. Acevedo says Mr. Goldberg, the janitor, is indispensable. Think of another story. Who in that story is indispensable? Use a Venn diagram. How are they like Mr. Goldberg? How are they different? Share your diagram with an adult.
  • Mr. Acevedo’s tattoo says, “A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” With an adult, talk about what this means.
  • Write a letter to a teacher you have had. Tell them how much they helped you learn, and why you liked having them as a teacher. Share your letter with an adult. If you want, mail the letter!
