Discovery Questions
Brenda and Tiffany are cousins, but they are very different from each other. Think about a book you have read with two family members as characters. Did they have the same or different talents and personalities? How did that make the story interesting? How would the story have changed if the two characters had always agreed or acted the same?
Brenda likes to read anatomy books (books about the body) because she wants to be a doctor when she grows up. What would you like to do when you grow up to be an adult? Have you read any books that will help prepare you for your future? Not sure what you want to do as an adult? Check out a book from your library about different careers and see if it leads you to new ideas!
Brenda lives in a city where she can ride a bus or walk to school, the store, and ballet classes. Cities are more urban, where people live close together and close to the things they need and do. Some people live in rural areas, where a lot of land separates them from school, the store, and other places they go. Compare and contrast what living in a city or living in a more rural area would be like. What do you think are the positive and negative parts of living in one place over the other?
Landscape pictures can be fun to draw. Landscape drawings focus on how an area looks and not on people. Research a city near you. Are there any buildings that make it look different from other cities? Draw a city landscape, including buildings from the city near you. Did you make lots of windows and doorways? Does your picture take place at night or during the day? How many details can you add?
