Discovery Questions
After your child receives and reads this book, Discuss one or more of the following questions to help him/her make connections and build comprehension.
- The BFG says, "What I mean and what I say is two different things." When have you been misunderstood as well? Write about it. Share your story with a parent.
- The BFG is bullied by the other giants. What character in another story is bullied? Use a Venn diagram to compare the BFG to that character. Show five ways they are alike and five ways they are different.
- Sophie asks the BFG to help her stop the giants from eating children. What she and the BFG did was dangerous, especially since she is so small and the giants are so huge. Why is it important to take action against something that is wrong, even if it is bigger than you are? Talk about it with a parent.
- The BFG uses a lot of very funny words. Write a dictionary of his funny words and what they mean!
