After your child receives and reads this book, Discuss one or more of the following questions to help him/her make connections and build comprehension.

• Duncan needed a friend. He wanted to read his book. What do you need help with? Which of your friends would you ask for help? Talk about it with a parent.
• The mouse helps Duncan out. He reads the story so Duncan won't burn up the book. Think of another story. What character helps someone out? Use a Venn diagram. How is that character like the mouse? How are they different? Share your diagram with a parent.
• Duncan asked other creatures for help. They didn't help him. Why is it important to help when you can? And, to be honest about your reasons if you can't? Talk about it with a parent.
• Write your own story about the next adventure Duncan and the mouse go on. Share your story with a parent.
