OK Lee wants to get rich. He is trying to earn money to help support his family. Sometimes, we can do jobs around our house or classroom that are helpful to others, not for pay but because they make our house or classroom run smoothly. What jobs could you do around your house that would be helpful? What are you already doing?
Think of another story you have read where the characters were trying to help their families have a better life. What did that character do? Did they have friends like OK to help? Make a list of similarities and differences between the two characters and a list of what was easy and hard for each character in their story. How many things on your lists were the same for each character? How does it affect each story?
There are a lot of things that OK Lee feels are not going well in his life. He has a hard time trusting the people he comes in contact with, but does start to notice good things and people in the world around him. Who are the people around you doing good things in your community?
OK has made some good friends in this story, and they overcome a few difficulties. Who are your good friends, how did you become friends? Think of something you can do to help your friends know you appreciate them. Make a plan with your friends for something you could do together.
