Think about what mammals might live in your area. How many mammals you can count? What similarities and differences do they share?
Think about a story you’ve read with animals as the main character. Are they mammals? Did the animal characters have to adapt to their fictional (not real) habitat to fit in with the story?
Many mammals live in habitats that change with the seasons. These mammals have to adapt (change). What adaptations might the mammals near you need to make to survive?
A new mammal! Think of two real mammals from the story. Let’s make a new mammal by combining two real mammal features (what makes it unique) to make your pretend mammal. How does it adapt? What is the habitat? Does it have fur or scales? What does it eat? Draw your animal’s habitat with your pretend mammal inside. Share your ideas with an adult.
