Discovery Questions
Mittens is a new kitten in a new home. What other story have you read about cats or kittens? Did they have to find a new home? Did the kitten in your other story look and act like mittens?
Mittens was scared in his new, big home and wanted a small, cozy place to feel safe. Have you ever been scared or afraid like mittens? Being afraid or being scared can be a big feeling. What do you do when you feel this way? Do you have a special toy or blanket to make you feel better? Talk about your big feelings with your adult and make a plan together to feel better when big feelings happen.
Is Mittens a big animal or a small one? Why do you think small animals like to hide in small places when they feel danger might be near? What other small animals can you think of? What small places do you think they would like to hide in? Where do you think big animals hide?
Pretend you are as small as Mittens! Where would you hide if you were a tiny kitten? Draw a picture of yourself as a little kitten, then draw your little kitten’s hiding place. Your drawing might be so small you only need a tiny piece of paper!
