Discovery Questions

  • Octopus liked to play with the other animals but did not always ask if they wanted to play his game. Do you think it is more fun when friends all agree on playing a game together or when one friend tells the others what they are going to do? Why or why not?
  • In this story, Octopus causes Oyster to lose her pearl but then says he is sorry and helps her find it. Can you think of another story where someone lost something, but friends came together to help them find the missing object? Was it easier to find with everyone working together?
  • An octopus has many arms, 8! Would it be fun to have 8 arms? What would you be able to do differently if you had as many arms as an octopus?
  • With your adult, look up videos about how an octopus lives in the ocean. Do you notice anything similar or different from Octopus in the story?
