Beside the sea, there once lived a cow, a donkey, a sheep, a pig, and a tiny little mouse. They were good friends, and one warm, sunny morning, for no particular reason, they decided to go for a row in the bay. Do you know who sank the boat?

Discovery Questions
Have you ever been on a row boat? What do you think it would be like? Make up a story about what it would be like to go on a row boat ride. Who would it be with? Where would you go? What would you see?
Think of another story you have read. Does it have friends who go on an adventure? How are they like the cow, donkey, pig, sheep, and mouse? How are they different? Talk about it.
The animals took Mr. Peffer’s boat. Did they ask for permission? Did they know how to swim? What will his reaction be? Will he be mad? Will he think it is funny? Talk about it.
Instead of the five animals, pretend you and four friends are taking a boat out. Draw a picture to show a moment from your adventure that you could share with others.
